Article: The Teaching Brain and the Science Behind Great Teaching

This is the best way. Students will do their best in this kind kind of socially aware and cooperative environment. Grouping is so much more than designating how many kids per group. You must know the kids to know how to put the groups together so each one can work to the best of his or her ability and so that the group will be able to achieve something better than what each independently could accomplish.

Students work best when they care about one another and genuinely desire to do well and to live up to one another's expectations.
